Why I do this Work

I’m an ethical conservation scientist and writer with a focus on complex, often uncomfortable realities—where ecology, policy, and ethics intersect.

My work spans climate change, wildfire ecology, wildlife trafficking, natural resource corruption, and ecoregional conservation. I’ve worked in the Arctic, across North America, and in southern and eastern Africa—bringing together science, grounded field experience, and a commitment to ecological and social integrity.

Contact

I’m open to meaningful collaborations, writing opportunities, research partnerships, and field-based projects that align with my values and expertise.

My Story

My career has taken me from Arctic climate change research and fire-adapted landscapes in the American West to community-based conservation in Africa. I’ve investigated wildlife trafficking and natural resource corruption, including rhino poaching syndicates.

My work also includes laboratory animal investigations, ecoregional conservation assessments, and field-based projects focused on land degradation, biodiversity loss, and ethical land use.  I’ve contributed to both policy-level strategy and on-the-ground science across ecosystems and continents.

I hold a PhD in natural resources with interdisciplinary training in quantitative and qualitative methods.  My approach is systems-based, rooted in science, and informed by lived experience.

Along the way, I’ve seen where conventional conservation efforts fall short—and where science can better serve people, animals, and ecosystems.  This platform is where I share those reflections and advocate for more transparent, courageous, and accountable conservation practices.
